At an event held at the iconic Restaurante La Santa, located on the picturesque beach of Can Picafort, the MUNICIPIO KM0 recognition was awarded to the distinguished town council of Santa Margalida by Miguel Ángel Salom (Lawyer and sponsor of Eurogreen Label Baleares).
The event was attended by Joan Monjo Estelrich, mayor of Santa Margalida, Ana M. Rodríguez Narbona, councilor for tourism and commerce, and Rocio Romero Galera, councilor for culture and heritage, who received this distinguished recognition on behalf of the municipality. The town is now proudly integrated into the network of responsible municipalities under the KM0 and EuroGreen Label Baleares, represented by Inés Luengo and Miguel Ángel Galeote.
This achievement highlights the firm commitment of the Santa Margalida town council to support local products and enhance the territory’s value.
This commitment will be realized through a strategic plan designed to promote the sustainable development of the municipality.
The strategies will focus on supporting local producers, boosting native gastronomy, and promoting agrotourism, creating a new model of territorial development based on the quality, transparency, and authenticity of local products and producers.
The event turned into a celebration of Mallorcan culinary excellence, with a menu crafted by Toni Gelabert, manager of La Santa, along with his excellent kitchen team and prominent local producers and distributors such as Fet a Sóller, Matas Embotits, Co Pain, La Tafona d’es Pujol olive oil, Frutas y verduras Daniel, Embotits y carns Ca’ Sereno, and Ses Bodegues Macià Batle.
Each of these producers contributed their best products, reflecting the richness and diversity of the island’s gastronomy.
Notably, the excellent selection of wines we had the pleasure of tasting included:
– Macià Batle Blanc de Blancs 1856.
– Red wine aged in French oak barrels.
– MB Rosat Pàlid
– Gran Selecció Macià Batle
– Premsal Blanc
– Premsal fermented in new French oak barrels.
Restaurante La Santa, the event host, also received a special distinction. It was accredited as the first KM0 restaurant in the area, a recognition that underscores its commitment to using local ingredients and supporting local producers.
The plaque was presented by the municipal government representatives, symbolizing the union of efforts between authorities and the private sector to promote a sustainable and responsible consumption model.
At the same time, we are pleased to announce La Santa’s incorporation into the SaboreandoMallorca.com project, created by Macià Batle, Balearfresh, Restauración CAEB, ASCAIB, and Proyecta Ideas Y Negocios, as recognition for the great work of Balearic restaurants and chefs, showcasing Mallorcan traditions and fine wine to the world.
The event not only celebrated the recognition awarded but also marked the beginning of a series of actions aimed at promoting the consumption of Mallorcan products. These actions seek to generate a positive impact on Balearic society, promoting the economic and social well-being of the community.
In the coming dates, new initiatives will be announced, including awareness campaigns, collaborations with local establishments, and educational programs to highlight the benefits of consuming local products.
The integration of Santa Margalida into the KM0 and EuroGreen Label network represents a significant step toward consolidating a sustainable development model that prioritizes the local economy, environmental protection, and the promotion of gastronomy based on authenticity and quality.
This commitment to local products not only strengthens the cultural and gastronomic identity of the municipality but also contributes to the territory’s sustainability and resilience.
Thus, Santa Margalida, Can Picafort, and Son Serra position themselves as exemplary models, demonstrating that it is possible to combine tradition and modernity in the pursuit of a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
We could not conclude this news without expressing our great thanks to the spectacular team and staff of La Santa: Sandra, Caterina, Gorka, Santi, Abi, Tao, Tijani, Nico, Samu, Tomeu, and Toni. And to a kitchen team that surprised everyone with a spectacular entrecôte paella using Mallorcan Ca’ Sereno meats and sausages.
